Neighbourhoods Green

LOCATION: UK-wide.

AIM: To develop and coordinate a national Neighbourhoods Green partnership project which champions good quality design, management and use of social housing green space; to establish local and regional housing/green space networks supported through Neighbourhoods Green to deliver practical green space initiatives; to build a robust evidence base from which to advocate the role of green space in place making.

LOCATION: Bristol

AIM: This is not a discrete initiative but a system-wide approach with a number of elements, some of which are of project status but the aim being to mainstream i.e. embed sustainable development and environmental sustainability in all council business. The case study, written up in more detail by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), focuses especially on the Health and Social Care (HSC) directorate.

There was no Annual Conference in 2011 as funding for the new phase of the Network was confirmed too late to allow sufficient time for conference organisation. However, an evening event was held in December 2011 to mark the launch of the new phase of the Network.

London 2012 Changing Places

AIM: Drawing inspiration from the Olympic Park’s regeneration, the Changing Places Programme was established to: (a) inspire surrounding communities to improve public spaces, such as parks, open spaces and watersides; (b) enable people to learn new interests and skills; and (c) to enable long-lasting improvements in the quality of the local environment beyond the period of the Olympic Games.
